Mumbai Bowlers- Boult, Bumrah,Chahars keep Sunrisers winless by defendimg 150.
Pollard's 35 runs in 22 balls gave Mumbai a respectable total.
Taking inspiration from the last two matches at Chepauk, that low totals can also be defended, Mumbai Indians became the first team in IPL 2021 to win the toss and bat first and defended a low total of 150. Their score 150 for 5 was in the middle of 152 and 149 defended in previous two matches, bit, Jonny Bairstow, opening the innings threatens any opposition to take the game from them the game three of the powerplay overs for 52 runs.
Rahul Chahar broke the back off the Sunrisers Hyderabad with his three wickets in the middle overs, then came into the attack, Trent Boult came to wipe off the with a tiny help from Bumrah again. Vijay Shankar, who had taken two wickets but had dropped Kieron Pollard in the 19th over before Pollard caused the damage, kept the Sunrisers alive for 28 runs off 25 balls, but came Boult and Bumrah and crushed the Sunrisers with their slow ball.
Powerplay Tussle
On this pitch, the only time teams can score runs in the powerplay but also keeping one thing in mind that you don’t lose too many wickets. With Quinton De Kock struggling to score runs, Rohit Sharma stood up and started hitting runs, and with that happening Mumbai Indians ended the powerplay overs with 53 runs without losing a wicket, however, no teams those who have played here could claim the honors.
Shankar, Rashid squeeze on
As the powerplay got over the field open, the game changed completely. Shankar used the slowness in the ball to have caught Rohit Sharma at deep mid-wicket and then did the catching himself of the dangerous-looking Suryakumar Yadav. The Sunrisers didn’t mind that Rashid enjoyed a match-up between Pollard and Hardik Pandya. They used him for eight overs through 12 overs for 17 runs. When Mujeeb Ur Rehman came, he removed De Kock caught at the deep wicket for a 39 ball 40. Mumbai was 98 for 3 in 14 overs.
Mumbai wins in the death, only just
It was now down to the best lower-middle over of the tournament to give Mumbai a total where they could feel comfortable. However, Khaleel Ahmed, Khan, and Mujeeb stopped them. Mujeeb got Ishan Kishan out caught on the leg side by the wicket-keeper, Ahmed got Hardik out. Leading up to the last two balls, no six was hit in the last 27 balls. Between them, three or the four new players, Shakar, Ahmed, and Abhishek Sharma bowled eight overs for 48 runs and got three wickets.
Pollard, was dropped in the 19th over and so far shanking everything to midwicket because of the slowness of the surface, finally found a ball in the slot of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and hit him for a six. The last ball was not in the slot but had enough pace and Pollard sent it to deep midwicket. On the rare off night, Kumar ended with figures of 4-0-45-0. Their 43 runs in the last four overs were the joint-highest effort at Chepauk in this IPL.

Bairstow hits the ground running
The other changes in Sunrisers’ line-up were dropping Wridhiman Saha and promoting Bairstow up the order. It nearly proved right as he laid into the New Zealanders Boult and Adam Milne. He hit three fours and four sixes in the 15 overs. At 55 for 0 in 5 overs, the Sunrisers were probably a good total in the powerplay and sealing a chase of 150.
Mumbai clawback
This is probably why Rohit went to Bumrah to close the powerplay out. He nearly got Bairstow out with a slower ball, but a two-run over meant the Sunrisers still had work to do now with the field spread out. There was no reason, though, for Bairstow to change his tempo. Unfortunately, though, his back foot slipped onto the base of his wicket as he looked to ramp Krunal Pandya, making him the fifth Sunrisers victim out of 13 hit-wicket dismissals in the IPL.
Chahar, coming off a star hand in Mumbai's win in the last match, then turned the screw in. Manish Pandey, for a change, eschewed his anchor game, but with no luck as he hit straight to long-off for a seven-ball two. Then Warner went off for the fateful single with the ball hit straight to point.
Rohit smartly snuck in two Pollard overs to exploit the slowness of the surface and provide insurance should either Boult or Milne not be able to bowl out. From the end of the fifth over to the end of the 14th, only one boundary came for the Sunrisers, that too off a top edge. The pressure was too much for an inexperienced middle order, and Virat Singh and Abhishek holed out in Chahar's last over.
Shankar tries but in vain
With 47 required in five overs and the fifth bowler's quota done, Rohit still went to Krunal to avoid bowling Milne at the end. Shankar hit two big sixes to keep the Sunrisers breathing, but Bumrah's mix of slower balls and yorkers on the slow pitch raised the asking rate high enough for Boult to take advantage of the batters who had no option but to hit out at him.
